Mont Saint Michel

It's not by hazard that the Monst Saint Michel was one of the first monuments in the world to be listed as a World Heritage by the UNESCO. The Mont is one of the most visited minuments in France, and it is definitly a must while visiting France and if you can spare a few days out of Paris.

The Mont Saint Michel's fame and beauty are not only related to its history and architectural beauty of the village and monuments, but also to the amazing lanscape around.
There is a sort of museums visit giving you the possibility to visit 4 small musuems; These musuems are private and are mainly interesting to understand how the Mont was built and the visit of an old house of one the Mont's knights.
The most important visit to be done with a guide is the Monastry at the top of the Mont.

Rather than taking a hotel in the Mont or just from the other side of the Channel, the best would be to visit the Mont Saint Michel and Saint Malo in the same trip (road trip is great), and sleep in Saint Malo. Hotels and restaurants are nicer and cheaper, and Saint Malo is also worth the detour. You can visit the Mont Saint Michel from Saint Malo during the day (50 minutes driving) at come back at night.
