Wailing Wall

The Wailing Wall in Jerusalem is the most loved place by Jews all around the world. Located in the western part of the city on the edge of the Mount of the Temple (the mosque under the golden dome), the Wailing Wall is located at the crossroads of two major cultures and faiths: Jewish and Muslim. The remaining wall from the old temple is the holiest place for Jews because it is all that remains of the Temple of Solomon.
This place is known by many names: the Western Wall, the Wailing Wall, Kotel. In ancient Hebrew texts the place is often called the "western wall", but it is not known whether it refers to the current wall or to another wall of the temple, which today no longer exists. The term "Wailing Wall" appears only in the nineteenth century, in English literature. This last name was gained from the Jewish tradition to come here and bemoan the state of Jerusalem and the Holy Temple demolition.
At the main entrance to the Western Wall there are scanners installed. One of the best times to visit the Western Wall is during the celebration of the Sabbath from Friday evening until Saturday morning when Jews gather in the huge market, read and dance to traditional Jewish songs until sunset.
On the esplanade in front of the Wailing Wall take place, besides prayers, very different events: on Monday and Thursday mornings are held ceremonies during which the 13-year-old boys receive the religious full age; on Friday evenings the students celebrate at sunset the arrival of the Sabbath; newlyweds come to take photos of themselves and first graders receive here their first bible.
Hebrew believers place tickets in the spaces between the stones of the wall on which they write their wishes, while others pray aloud in various languages. Twice a year, before Easter and Hebrew New Year (in the fall) those especially selected go to the Western Wall, take out the pieces of paper and then they bury them on the Mount of Olives.Less
